Obvious Dad Brand Identity

How do we get people to come together, have more dialogue, and challenge their preconceptions? Blake Harris, founder and artistic director of the Chattanooga, TN-based theatre group Obvious Dad has an all-encompassing answer: fearless, entertaining live productions telling authentic stories that champion artists and audiences alike.

We built the brand around this galvanizing conviction. Discovery revealed a company hellbent on changing its world for the better by starting close to home. Stories that flip expectations, disarm with humor and compassion, spark conversations, and shift perspectives. Theatre that gives voice to the unseen and unheard.

The identity follows suit: a punchy, can’t-miss fuchsia wordmark (with a half-dozen variants) that captures the idea of seemingly opposing forces uniting and supporting one another. A vibrant, flexible palette. Gobo-inspired circle motifs. Raw, hand-drawn marks. Bold typography and striking imagery combine to create something unapologetically punk, queer, and full of life.

At its core, this project is about taking values that should be obvious — tolerance, openness, community — and making them more visible in a polarized world.

For this project, we worked on Brand Strategy, Creative Direction, Verbal Identity, Logo & Visual Identity, Photographic Direction, and all Design.
